‘Customer Maintained’ means that you – the customer – will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the vehicle, just like you would be if you bought a car. This is also sometimes known as ‘non-maintained’.

Taking out a fully-maintained contract with your leasing company usually means that, for a fixed additional monthly cost, servicing; maintenance costs, tyres etc will be taken care of giving you that extra peace of mind. This is also sometimes known as ‘funder-maintained’.

  • I already have ‘fully maintained’ – is there anything else I need to worry about?

Unfortunately, in most cases maintenance packages do not cover windscreens but your car insurance company should be able to assist with this, usually at no additional cost. Here is a quick summary:

Consider how many ‘services’ your new car might need over the duration of your leasing contract, then add on extras such as replacement tyres or breakdown cover that most of us will require at some point in time and costs quickly add up.

Also, everyone with a leased vehicle will need to ensure that the car meets the BVRLA ‘fair wear and tear’ standards to avoid incurring penalties when they return it; regular maintenance and servicing will ensure the vehicle stays in tip-top condition meaning you do not need to worry about the possibility of multiple repair bills to bring the car back up to scratch towards the end of the contract.

Business owners who have multiple cars or commercial vehicles may benefit from maintenance packages so they do not have to worry about paying for high-cost unexpected repairs which could mean disruption to the business.
